The Grand Blanc Arts Council is pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 GBAC Senior Scholarship Awards concluding the exhibit and ceremony in the library of Grand Blanc High School East Campus on May 3rd. 28 seniors submitted 3-5 pieces of art.
1st Place - $1000 Sophie Mikonczyk 2nd Place - $500 Sarah Langston 3rd Place - $250 Isabella Carpenter
Sarah Fulmer-Ignash, Janet Goldstein, and Karen Tomlinson comprised the Panel of Judges. Scores are based on the Criteria of Originality, Composition, Use of medium, Quality of presentation. Award money is sent directly to the students’ colleges. Special sponsorship of the 3rd Place scholarship was provided by Advanced Physical Therapy Center. The remaining awards are funded by The Grand Blanc Arts Council through donations year round. Art Teachers in the Grand Blanc High School Art Department are Steve Barker, Meagan Doering, Aimee Londrigan, and Amy Johnson. Mediums explored and represented include oil and acrylic paint, graphite and charcoal, ceramics and 3-D sculpture, textiles, photography, digital design and animation. Many GBAC volunteers contributed to the event. Lesli Donnelly, Debbie Kalush, Theresa Lafia, Linda Midler, Peggy Newell, Karen Tomlinson, Mike Vedder, Kathy and Stu Weiner installed the exhibit. Sue Purdy headed the judging process. Refreshments at the reception were provided by Shirley Eason and Beverly Gillie. Kathy Weiner served as Committee chairperson.
